Tools Born from Years of IT Support.
A growing set of useful, privacy-friendly diagnostic tools built by Mat.
Built by Mat
Hi, I’m Mat. I’ve worked in IT support for over 20 years, and I’m a web-tech enthusiast who loves building small, useful side projects.
AVTester started as a way to help with basic troubleshooting for a hall A/V system. One speaker wasn’t working, and I wanted a tool I could use for sound testing without needing to download anything.
I built the Speaker Test for myself as something fun and genuinely useful. Over time, I expanded it into a suite of tools to help others too.
One feature I built for a real use-case is remote control for the Speaker Test. If you’re testing an audio system and your laptop is plugged into an amp, sitting on a lectern, or tucked away in an AV cupboard / rack, you can control left/right checks and test tones from your phone while you stand by the speakers.

"If any of these tools help you, great — and if you’ve got ideas or feedback, I’d love to hear it."
🔒 Privacy First
AVTester runs locally in your browser. Your mic/camera audio and video are processed on-device and aren’t uploaded to our servers.
⚡ No Installs
You shouldn’t need admin rights just to check if your speakers, mic, or webcam is working. These tools run straight in any modern browser.
🛠️ Utility
Simple but useful tools to support everyday troubleshooting, testing webcams, and setting up A/V equipment.
How AVTester is built and maintained
Every tool on this site is built using standard browser APIs — primarily the Web Audio API for sound generation and analysis,
getUserMedia for microphone and camera capture, and the Canvas/WebGL APIs for visualisations. The media-testing code
runs entirely on your device, with no back-end server processing your camera, microphone, or speaker output.
The tools are checked in modern browsers as they are updated. Some browser and device differences are unavoidable, especially around audio routing, microphone permissions, camera access, and mobile browser behaviour.
The site is updated as time allows. New tools, sample tracks, and bug fixes are added when they are ready rather than on a fixed release schedule. If you find a bug or want a feature, the contact page is the best place to send it.
