Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 28 April 2026
1. Local Processing
AVTester.com is built with a "Privacy First" architecture. When you use our Webcam Test, Microphone Test, or other diagnostic tools:
- No Media Uploads: Your video and audio streams are processed locally within your browser using HTML5 Web APIs.
- No Server Storage: We do not see, hear, record, or store your media streams on our servers.
- Peer-to-Peer Where Possible: Connectivity checks and the Speaker Test remote control use browser peer-to-peer technology where the network allows it.
The optional Speaker Test phone remote uses PeerJS signalling and WebRTC/STUN connection setup so your phone can send simple control commands to the laptop browser. Audio still plays on the laptop and is not uploaded to AVTester. PeerJS and STUN providers may process limited connection metadata such as IP addresses and network candidates as part of establishing the browser-to-browser connection.
2. Data We Collect
Although we never see your microphone, camera, or speaker output, we do collect a small amount of standard web-traffic information when you visit any page on AVTester.com:
- Usage analytics (via Google Analytics 4) — pages visited, approximate location at country/region level, device type, browser, and the referring site that brought you here. IP addresses are anonymised before processing.
- Standard server logs — date, time, page requested, HTTP status, and browser user-agent string. Retained for security and abuse-prevention purposes only.
- Device-report data — for the on-page "Device Report" tool, we display information about your browser and screen to you in real time. This data is generated on the fly in your browser and is never sent to our servers unless you choose to copy or share it yourself.
- Remote-control connection metadata — if you use the phone remote on the Speaker Test page, PeerJS/WebRTC may exchange temporary connection metadata needed to pair the two browsers. We do not store the remote-control commands or any speaker audio.
3. Cookies and Local Storage
We use cookies and browser Local Storage for the following purposes:
- Preferences (essential): To remember UI choices such as dark mode and tool settings between visits.
- Consent state (essential): To remember the consent choices you made via our consent banner.
- Analytics (non-essential): Google Analytics 4 sets cookies to measure unique visitors and session activity. Only set if you accept analytics cookies via the consent banner. If you decline, GA4 operates in cookieless mode and only basic, aggregated, modelled statistics are gathered.
- Advertising (non-essential): If advertising is enabled, Google AdSense and its partners may set cookies to serve relevant advertisements, frequency-cap how often you see the same ad, and measure ad performance. Only set if you accept advertising cookies via the consent banner.
4. Advertising (Google AdSense)
AVTester.com is free to use and may show advertising. If ads are shown, they are handled through Google AdSense. Google AdSense uses cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website and other websites on the internet.
Specifically:
- Google, as a third-party vendor, may use cookies to serve ads on AVTester.com if advertising is enabled.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visit to AVTester.com and/or other sites on the internet.
- You may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You may also opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info.
- If you decline advertising cookies via our consent banner, any ads shown should be non-personalised (NPA) and contextual rather than based on your interests.
For more information about how Google uses data, see the Google partner sites policy and the Google Privacy Policy.
5. Consent Management (GDPR, UK GDPR, ePrivacy)
Because AVTester.com is operated from the United Kingdom and serves a global audience, our consent setup is designed to support the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR, and PECR/ePrivacy requirements. We use Google's FundingChoices Consent Management Platform — an IAB TCF v2.2-certified CMP — to obtain, record, and manage your consent.
On your first visit (and any time you clear cookies) you will be shown a consent banner asking whether you accept analytics and advertising cookies. Until you make a choice:
- No advertising cookies are set.
- No analytics cookies are set.
- Google Consent Mode v2 is in force, with all consent signals defaulted to denied.
You can change or withdraw your consent at any time by clicking the "Privacy choices" link that the CMP places at the bottom of any page, or by clearing cookies for this domain in your browser settings.
6. Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
We use Google Analytics 4 (property ID G-PP9H0L0TMQ) to understand which tools are useful and which pages need improvement. IP anonymisation is enabled, ad personalisation signals are redacted, and analytics data is retained for the minimum standard period offered by Google. We never combine GA4 data with personally-identifying information.
7. External Links
Our site may contain links to external websites. We are not responsible for the privacy practices or content of such third-party sites.
8. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, including:
- The right to access the personal data we hold about you
- The right to request correction of inaccurate data
- The right to request deletion of your data
- The right to opt out of personalised advertising
