What to include in your message
The more context you give, the faster I can help. If you're reporting a bug or unexpected behaviour, the following details usually let me reproduce the issue on the first try:
- Which tool you were using (e.g. Speaker Test, Mic Test, Tone Generator).
- Browser and version — for example "Chrome 124 on Windows 11" or "Safari 17 on iPhone 15".
- What you expected to happen versus what actually happened.
- Any error messages displayed on the page or in the browser console (right-click → Inspect → Console).
- If audio-related: whether you're using built-in speakers, headphones, an external DAC, Bluetooth, or HDMI/optical out.
Screenshots are always welcome. The Diagnostics Report tool on this site can also generate a one-click summary of your browser and device capabilities — you can paste that into your email and it gives me almost everything I need.
Tool requests and ideas
AVTester started as a personal project and has grown based on what real users have asked for. If there's a check or diagnostic that you keep wishing existed but can't find anywhere — get in touch. Even ideas that don't immediately fit the site help shape the roadmap.
