How to Test Your Webcam Online
AVTester provides a secure environment to test your camera locally. Whether you are troubleshooting a black screen, checking your webcam FPS for streaming, or even for fun, want a green screen or need an online mirror, these tools run directly in your browser without uploading data to a server.
🛠️ Technical Diagnostics
Use "Tech Test" mode to verify your resolution (e.g., 1080p, 720p) and measure input lag. If the FPS is low, try increasing your room lighting.

Just for fun! Need to hide your messy room? Use the "Virtual Green Screen" tab to blur your background or replace it with an image. This uses AI running locally on your CPU and you can recored a short video with this tool.
Troubleshooting Common Webcam Issues
- Browser Permissions: If you see a black screen, ensure your browser has permission. Click the "lock" icon 🔒 in the URL bar and switch "Camera" to Allow.
- Another App is Using It: Cameras can only be used by one app at a time. Close Skype, Zoom, or Teams before running this test.
- Driver Issues: If the "Camera Source" dropdown is empty, your computer doesn't detect the device. Unplug the USB and plug it back in, or update drivers in Windows Device Manager.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is this webcam test secure?
Yes. AVTester uses a "Privacy by Design" architecture. Your video feed is processed 100% inside your web browser using HTML5 technologies. No video data is ever sent to our servers.
Why is my webcam quality grainy?
Grainy video is usually caused by low lighting. Webcams increase their ISO sensitivity in dark rooms, which creates "noise." Try using our "Screen Light" tool (Mode 3) or turning on a desk lamp to improve clarity.
